Interdisciplinary Research-Creation Seminar – Summer 2025

From April 28 to May 9, 2025

Orford Musique

For the third consecutive year, the Canada Research Chair in Opera Creation organized an interdisciplinary research-creation seminar at Orford Musique. Co-directed by composer Ana Sokolović, choreographer Sarah Bild, musicologist and Scientific Director of the Chair Zoey Cochran, and stage director Martin Genest, the seminar focused on operatic co-creation blending music, dance, theater, and circus arts. Experiments emerging from this research-creation laboratory engage with the work of Ana Sokolović and Martin Genest on the figure of the clown in opera, as part of the preparation for the opera Clown(s), scheduled to premiere at the Opéra de Montréal in winter 2026. More broadly, lectures by speakers from various disciplines facilitated exploration into the pedagogical potential of the clown figure.
